Can you copy and paste or offset an attached canvas into a new component?

I have a component in which I used an attached canvas to trace the shape and now I want to move the exact image and its placement in the assembly over to a new component in order to move onto make the next body. At first I was going to just make the body in the same component off the original canvas and plane and then copy and paste it into a new component but thought it would be much less harry if I could just move the current canvas and its plane to a new component, activate the new component and then draw new sketches off that canvas rather than off the original in the inactivated component. 

Anyone know if this is possible?

I place Canvases in their own Component just for this purpose- especially useful when multiple Canvases representing different sides have been scaled and aligned  on intersecting Planes.   There after, the Component may be Copied and Pasted and all the Canvases maintain their relationship, scale.
