Can't make drawing for part of my model

I want to make a 2D drawing for just the mounting plate of my model:  http://a360.co/1BRqyTv

But when I go to make a 2D drawing and uncheck "Full Assembly" then click on one of the mounting plates, it selects my whole model.  The mounting plate is a separate body from the rest of the model.

Hi @SGoldthwaite ,

Currently you can not select a body to create a drawing from, as you noticed it will select the component the body belongs to.   You can select the body, right click and use the "Create Components from Bodies" command to move that body into it's own component.  Once you have done that you can then create a drawing of that component.  Allowing selection of bodies for a drawing is on our list.

Thank you,

Am I understand that to make a drawing of a body I need to make it a component first?

Sometimes the option to make a drawing is not offered and it's not cleat to me what controls this?  Thanks Tony

Hey Tony,

Yea, that's correct. Bodies need to be turned into components before creating a drawing for the best results.

Also, when you see that the Create New Drawing option is grayed out or not available from the dropdown menu, that simply means that the file hasn't been saved. The drawing has to have a design to reference to in order to make sure the views are populated correctly, so you must first Save your design.

I hope this is helpful, let us know if you have any other questions!

Best,

Timera
