Can't cut component from body

I am trying to cut a component from a body but every time I select Combine|Cut, my component tool moves to another location. Why does this happen? My component comes from another file and when I brought it in, I aligned it properly to where I wanted it to be and hit "capture position".

Does anyone also know why when I hide the component, some of the lines of the component remain visible?

I cannot speak to the line visibility but the behavior of the combine-cut operation might be explained in this screencast. While it says "Direct modeling" it applies to timeline mode as well (I believe). If you simply complete the operation ignoring the incorrect looking preview, does it complete correctly ?
