can't click-drag to see motion

I'm working on a design for a standing desk.  Think of it as a "base" component and a "top" component.

The top is supposed to move relative to the base.  I designed and imported some draw-slide type elements and jointed them appropriately between the two major components mentioned above.

I've included all of the pieces of the base into a "rigid group", and all of the pieces of the top into a second rigid group.  The base is grounded.

There are two things I expected to be able to do based on the above.  Seems I don't understand something yet.

1) if I select the sliding joint in one of my four draw-slide elements and do a "drive joints" on it, I can make the slide do its thing, and the single body that I attached it to on the top (the actual central top panel) goes up and own as expected.  I expected all of the associated bodies in that rigid group to move along with that panel...but they don't.  They just sit there.

2) I expected to be able to click-drag anywhere on that top rigid group and pull up on it to see it move relative to the base.  Nothing happens at all.  No motion of anything.  This is demonstrated in some of the "build assemblies" videos, but I can't get it to happen.

Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?  (design file attached)

Jeff,

You have two issues here and we are aware of them and looking for better solutions. Thank you for reporting this!

For the issue of Rigid Group selections: Currently, when you make a browser pick of components the sub-assembly 'wrapper' component is what is being selected, not the children components of this sub-assembly file.

Workaround: Set the Select filter in the toolbar to Components only and window select the groups in-canvas for your rigid group.

For the issue of component drag: We decided to by default disable component drag for this release. It is enabled again by using the toggle under Select in the toolbar for Component drag. If you capturing design history this move will be captured as a snapshot.

Thanks! I'm now able to accomplish my goal using the workarounds.

I'm curious why you think this is workaround? Do you think that functions are missing or that this method is incorect?

Normaly a worrkaround means a way to wor around something not working.

My understanding of what Phil wrote was that selecting components from the browser is supposed to work, but is not currently working. "Workaround" is to select them in the canvas instead. I'm a newbie, but to me both should be equivalent, so yes, I would say that not being able to select them in the browser to make a rigid group is "broken".

Perhaps I mis-spoke. To be clear, the selection issue is intended behavior. This gives you the flexibility to group only specific components in the subassembly.

Rather than 'work around' I should have said 'another way to achieve this using the canvas'.

The way to use the browser in this scenario is to expand the node of the sub-assembly and select the components within.
