Broken Views now In Preview

For the January 2021 Update, we've introduced Broken Views as part of a technology preview. The purpose of this Forum post is to use it as a means to gather feedback specific to Broken Views.

The first question you might have is - Why Preview? Well... we're not done with the feature to consider it for production use. Straight facts for you. The work we already have planned gets us to production in a couple of months but it's ready enough for some feedback. That's why we decided to utilize the preview capabilities of Fusion 360.

If you missed the What's New Blog update, you can find it here - January 2021 What's New

So hit us up here for suggestions on how we can make what's already pretty good even better.

Hi fraser.dunlop2FRSP and MarkvanDenMunckhof,

We have known issues and limitations with export, to either the "AutoCAD DWG" or "Simplified DWG and DXF" formats, in the current release. We have been addressing them internally. Thanks for your comments, please keep them coming!

Hi,

The support for Simplified DWG export for broken views is in progress. It will be available soon.

Hi,

Can you please check if certain entity like dimension or hatch pattern (in case of section views) lying on the sheet? This might cause issue while fitting window to the screen.

If possible please share the drawing so that it will help us to investigate further.

Yay, I've wanted this for a while!  Seems to work well but rotated views are important for me, will look forward to that being completed.

Thanks.

Amazing addition!
Now we can preview the broken views.
Thanks a lot.

Hi

Just to add to the un-selectable edges - This applies for angular dimensions as well. Cannot achieve an angular dimension to a broken line as it's not selectable.

Cheers

Thank you chris.lawes for the additional information.

I believe this "un-selectability" is a known issue, as we need more time to ensure that the dimension previews are correct during this process.

In terms of understanding the workflow, if you could provide a screen shot (or even a data set) showing the context where you want to add an angular dimension to a broken edge, that would be really helpful.

Nil horizontal lines selectable so unable to obtain an angular reference. The end (post break) vertical line is selectable though as a work around.

Thanks

There is a bit of a work-around for this.  if you split the edge somewhere before it crosses the gap, you can dimension to it.  you actually have to do a split face to get the edge split.  splitting the face like this on this part-

will allow you to dimension like this-

For me, rotating a broken view removes the break, and breaks cannot be made from rotated base views.

Also, please add the ability to break section views.

Hi AETCAD,

I believe these are known limitations that we are working on, but I will pass them on to the team. Thanks for reporting them.

I only have one complaint. Whenever I have a really long cable that I need to use break view to shorten in a drawing, it always comes out super pixelated and horrible quality. Haven't found a fix yet.

Hi,

I assume you are referring to the "preview" image, that goes away once you complete the command? Or are you seeing heavy pixelation in a completed (and broken) shaded view?
