Body copy with independent parameters

Hi, I am trying to create a copy of the original body that would be possible to change the parameters independently from original body.

Here I have two coils on the cylinder. One is original, another is a copy of it. For one of them I would like to change pitch, diameter, section size, etc. But whenever I change it, both bodies change.

How can I get just one of them modified?

Thanks, and sorry if the question is answered somewhere - could not find it 😞

Hi @dr.kaban,

The best way to have individual parameters after copying the body is to do that on a component level.

So create a component and copy and Past New the component into the browser.

Now you have new parameters for that specific component

tried it, thanks

can't get it working anyway

after i try to change one component's body, the other does the same. though i pasted is as "new" 😞

would you try seeing what is the problem?

here's the link

i am about to change one of the two coils on the cylinder - namely, change the diameter from 26.445 to 24.265 for one of them.

I am curious if you mange that...

Hi @dr.kaban. I tried to replicate your model, and I create the first coil in a new component. So I could Copy/Paste New. Then you will have a file structure like @Marco.Takx pointed out above.

Your Parameters list should then have this appearance:

See the attached F3D file.

I'm trying to do the same (copying a component and pasting as new), but instead of independent new "coil primitive" i am getting "move"

what i am doing wrong???

paste (or paste new) will do the paste, then immediately put you into Move so you can re-position the new component.  Move it and you will see.

One important note here:  If you cancel the Move, you still have done the Paste!  There will still be a new component in your model (check the browser).  You will have to undo the Paste to get rid of it.

Based on this image, I will suppose your F3D file remains the same.

You created a Coil, then created a component from this solid:

If you change this order, creating firstly New Component, which is always a nice practice, and then working in your first coil, you will get what you want.

Then you can Copy/Paste New this Coil component, and you will have two set of parameters.

I used this approach in the last file I attached here.
