Best workflow for this model?

Im thinking about either doing this myself or sending it away for 3d scanning..

Would love to fix this myself but I have a bunch of wooden plates like this in different shapes and for it to be woth my while I need a good work flow.

How would you guys do it?

My first ide is just to take photos to use for canvas and draw spline of contour and arc the shape.. Then offset the arc as the thickness of the plate and extrude a shape.. To finish it of I would use the contour shape to cut extrude over the shape..

I was also about to try surface with the contour as plane and the arc as rail but that would just be a pool like shape..

Again.. what do you think is the best way of doing this?

I made this with my first workflow suggestion..

First extruding the shape from the ark in to the thickness of the plate. Then using the contour to extrude cut away the scrap body around the model..

Also.. There is a tiny detail in the back where material is removed all around the shape..

I used a rectangle and the contour to sweep away the material.. Had to do it twise cause it dint what to continue over the center. and when the two sweeps met, they were not the same size?.. how is that on a mirrored part??

I think what your doing works just fine.  I did a quick example before your second post.  I'm going to go ahead an attach even though it's basically the same thing. (I used intersect instead. potato patato)

not really following what your asking about for the additional detail.  My guess is you will need to adjust the parameters of your sweep function.  maybe a path with guide surface?  can you post more detail for that?

Awesome.. I think your way is better!.. less sketching and less steps!

Thx!..

Noticed my model I did somehow isnt symmetrical. That's kind of odd since it comes from a sketch profile I mirrored.

But that can explain my strange Sweep behavior.

Next model I double check my mirror step!..

It's perhaps better to mirror the body afterwards instead of mirroring the sketch.'

I would go one step further and say that it is nearly always better to mirror/pattern bodies as opposed to sketches.  They are easier to edit and just generally behave better.
