Basic folding/bending of a sheet metal.

I would like to create an angle profile and then notch out the one leg of the angle (on a 45 degree) and then bend the part. Am I able to do this in fusion 360? or can you only create the profile that you want?

Hi Pete,

Currently, Fusion 360 does not have the ability to bend parts or other sheet metal functionality.  Let's hear what the rest of the community thinks about having this functionality within Fusion 360.

You can still model your sheet metal parts but will need to use some other software to unfold it.

Thanks,

Andy

I suppose you could make these as surfaces and thicken them?

I posted this in the Idea Station, the status is comments requested- you might want to add your comments as well:

I think that the ability to develop flat patterns in an application with the ease of use of Fusion could bring in a whole new class of people who are not traditionally CAD users.

Hi Andy, When you guys implement the sheet metal functionality into Fusion please, please, please include a function to auto calculate boilermaking mathematics, i.e bending, square to round and so on for thicker plates. Traditionally sheet metal is for metal sheets up to 3mm beyond that the actual plate thickness needs to be brought into the calculation and the ability of machines to bend plates without shearing.

@Anonymous,

Can you provide some more details about what you are calling "auto calculate boilermaking mathematics".  I am not familiar with this term and don't want to assume that you are looking for more than K-factor or bend tables to calculate bends.  Your comment on square to round, are you looking to loft from a square to round, cut a seam and then flatten?

Thank you,

Hi,

Would really like this.

To be able to design a sheet metal component as part of a larger assembly, then unfold and do cam for plasma all in one place!

You must add this function?

Regards,

Peter.

Hi Andrew,

                   Would really really love to use Sheet metal tools in fusion 360...please add them ASAP. As i am a press tool design engg, calculating the blank length with particular K factor, bending & forming operations are frequent.

Regard,

Krunal

Please chime in if you agree...

We need typical/traditional punch/bend sheet metal features like flange, bend, corner seam, rip, hem, etc...

And we need standard part libraries (like Pems) & processes like welding to support sheet metal assemblies.

In addition, we also require functionality that supports sheet metal process... such as progressive die, pierce+lance deep draw & hydroforming...

And of course, we also need flat patten solvers which support these types of manufacturing process.

**If you don't vote, you can't complain**

Best,

Brian

I think that basic sheet folding would be a really good addition to fusion as it would allow easy modelling of 2d DXF files. As a novice of Fusion it would make it a lot more simple to create a shaped part from a basic sketch.

Yes, my team also needs the sheet metal features! One specific feature we are missing is the unbend/rebend and flat pattern feature than many other types of software have.

@Anonymous,

Thank you for your excitement around sheet metal. In early December we will be reaching out to select customers in order to get feedback on our workflows for creating sheet metal parts, while the team works on the flattening functionality. The goal is to be able to react if needed to this feedback, before we do our initial release.  Here is a link to our latest blog post showing our progress.
