baffled by import image

I've been playing around importing images so they can be traced. I'm confused at what ends up getting imported.

See attached picture. When I import an image, I get a "squished" version of it, the aspect ratio is not maintained from the original image.

However, if I try to scale it by doing the aspect ratio math (in this case 2016/1512 = 1.333), the image does not go back to what it should be. The scale actually needs to be more like 1.6. What am I missing here? Why doesn't it not maintain the original aspect ratio?

Also, is there any plans to add ability to import eps files or such that will get the tracing done automatically?

Thanks.

Distorted and original attached.

@fritter63 If you had done some research and come across this, I wonder if you had still posted that offensive nonsense!

@TrippyLighting Ouch. Thanks for the update. Too much to keep track of these days.

Sorry if you were offended. 🙂

Hello all, its 2025 now and bug is still there, using picture taken by my iPhone 13 as canvas in Windows 11 computer (core i9 14900k/rtx3090/64GB). For simple solution ive found this workaround. Just convert your image as any uncompressed bitmap, such is *.bmp to get rid of exif information, and then back to jpg. Your new jpg will be ok, without distortion. Just dont understand, why Autodesk, creating such wonderfull software, simply ignore it for such long.

Have a nice day.

Not fixed at 17.08.2025, the mentioned before workaround is to rotate before inserting.
