Autodesk Print Studio -> Octoprint/Octopi

Hi,

I recently started trying out Fusion 360 after being a long time Solidworks users. Very nice so far.

I tried to 3d print directly from fusion360, but currently slic3r isn't supported. That is fine, apparently it is a work in progress. In the meantime i thought i would try Autodesk Print Studio so installed print studio only to find no support for networked reprap printers. Can we get network API support for octoprint added so we can export GCODE from print studio directly to octoprint?

http://octoprint.org/

Thanks and kind regards,

Hey @Anonymous,

Thanks for the post, just curious if you're aware that you can hook up Slic3r to Fusion directly? I think this will solve what you're looking for.

- Select the 3D Print command from the toolbar

- In the 3D Print dialog, choose Custom in the Print Utility dropdown, and use the file navigation to point toward where Slic3r is on your computer (or any other print utility you want to use)

- Now, when you pick a component or an assembly to 3D print, you'll be able to press "OK" and Fusion will automatically open Slic3r and load the chosen selection.

Hopefully this is helpful, let me know if you have any other questions!

Best,

Timera

You can also use this add-in. It creates a direct link to octoprint and uses cura on the raspberry to slice.

I need a workflow from Print Studio to octoprint to a flash forge (makerbot clone) printer.  It doesn't seem possible now, but correct me if I'm wrong.

Print Studio outputs the custom binary file format .X3G that makerbot requires.  Kudos to autodesk for supporting this, most software like Cura doesn't.  However, in octoprint, a plugin exports gcode to X3G on the fly when outputting.  Octoprint can't handle X3G format as input.  What I need for this workflow is for Print Studio to output normal gcode like Cura does.

I really like some of the Print Studio features and I'd like to try it.  If you've ever used octoprint then you'll know why running without it is not an option.

P.S.  I've tried slicing using cura in octoprint but I had too many problems and no way to diagnose them.
