Assembly model not updating correctly compared with Sub-Assembly

Hello,

I am currently working on an assembly of a teardrop trailer.  In the main assembly there are only two sub-assemblies.  These being the chassis and the body for the trailer.  In the body sub-assembly all components are as shown in the images provided.  When I go to the main assembly six parts that should be on the body now are floating off in space not where they should be.  The curved pieces that I assembled in the body were joined using Joint Origins.  This worked out fine for the body assembly but what is going on when I try to bring this sub-assembly into the main assembly?  Body.pngAssembly.png

Just noting that you have a to of yellow waring icons in the timeline that need to be fixed.

Other than that it's hard to judge without having access to the design.

I went back through my assemblies and managed to correct all of the error warnings that were in the models.  I then saved the sub-assembly again.  I reopened the main assembly and updated it with the new changes I had made in the sub-assembly.  The result was still the same.  The six parts are still not staying located on the sub-assembly in the main assembly.   ???

Again, this is hard to evaluate without having access to the design.

If you don't mid sharing it, you could export it as an .f3z or there is also the possibility to share a link through the data panel or to invite people to a project.

I started thinking about my assembly late last night and did a little experiment this morning.  I created some simple parts and created a new assembly.  I called it "Plate and Knob".  Then I created a second simple assembly.  I called this "Plate and Pins"  In the Plate and Pins assembly I assembled three pins in various positions on to the plate using points created by three planes.  Two were off set the third being the top surface of the plate.  I then joined three pins to these three points in the assembly and saved it.  I then went back to the Plate and Knob assembly and added the Plate and Pins assembly to it.  When this new assembly was added to the Plate and Knob assembly it looked fine until I created a joint to mount it to the assembly.  When I did this the pins would not follow the plate.  The plate mounted where I wanted it but the pins were left in space just like my larger assembly.  I then tried this setup again using Joint Origins set on the points.  This was needed in my large Teardrop trailer assembly.  Again I saved everything and brought the "Plate and Pins" assembly into the "Plate and Knob" assembly.  Again like my teardrop trailer layout and my first attempt at using this simpler assembly the pins were left floating off in space while the plate was mounted correctly in the main assembly.  Looks like a "Bug" to me if I can repeat the same steps in a simpler assembly and have it fail in the same way as my Teardrop trailer assembly which had many more parts.

Cool!  I note that you did not share that simple example either 😉

There's the clue,

in in the plate and pins, make the plate and the pins into a rigid group, after doing so, the pins will go anywhere you put the plate in the second Assembly.

Hope you can get going,

Hey DavebYYPCU!

That did the trick.  I figured how to make the rigid group from looking online.  Piece of cake for sure.  I then assembled the Plate and Pins assembly into the main assembly and it worked perfectly. Another nice trick to help my project keep moving in the right direction.

Thanks,

Dave

Ok, happy to help,

oops I didn't realise you might not know about the the rigid grouping, there a lot of tutorials and videos, out there,

sometimes we don't see the trees in the forest.
