Are components supposed to revert their position when deleting rigid-group?

I assambled a complicated component by using a lot of rigid joints.

For various reasons I would like to delete all the joints and start again (with a large rigid group and a few joints).

The problem is that if I delete a rigid group, the pieces snap back to their long forgotten position. Is there any way I can prevent that? Basically delete the joints and have the pieces hold their position?

Thx

No.

The application of the joint is not "long forgotten". Rather, it is captured by your design history. When you delete the joint, the component goes to where it would be if that joint did not exist.

I don;t think you can prevent that. But you can use align to getthe parts snapped back to a position and then apply the rigid group. Some manual work is unavoidable though and depending on what exact joints you yse and how you applied them you also may have to use the move tool to move the components in to location.
