applying a dimension issue

I'm encountering something that use to work and now isn't. Maybe it's a setting that has changed with an update but we'll see. When I now attempt to apply a dimension to whatever item, if the mouse is hovering over a surface it doesn't apply the dimension put highlights/selects the surface instead when I click the mouse. However, if I move the mouse to a blank area then click, the dimension is visible and gets applied properly. I now may have to zoom out and drag the mouse a significant distance from where I want the dimension just to place it, then drag it to to be close to the item to which it relates. I'm hoping this is just a setting that got toggled and I can set it back, but I have not discerned what it would be. What might I be overlooking?

If what you are seeing is illustrated in the attached Animated GIF, it is completely normal.  What the application is seeing is a potential surface to index the dimension from.  If this is not what you are experiencing, please attach a video showing your exact issue.

I have seen similar recently too and have reported it to Autodesk

Their internal Tracking is FUS-249005

This is not a setting that has been changed as far as I'm aware

What I'm seeing is similar, but it's happening to the face the circle is drawn on in your example as well as other faces.

and to add, this is happening when I try to dimension between two points. I would expect that FS is recognizing that two points are already selected and would not be trying select a new point. Also, the dimension value and lines are disappearing when over a surface but reappear when the mouse moves into a blank area
