Hi,
I recently bought a refurbished MacBook Pro (Core i7, 16gb, 500gb SSD) to make my Fusion designing more portable. Because of this, I reformatted my Mac mini (Core i5, 16gb, 750gb Fusion Drive) and put it up for sale on eBay. However, because of my new job (CNC programmer / CAD&CAM designer at a very succesful machine shop), it was pulled off from eBay again because my employer had an interesting BYOD policy, and I managed to make him interested in Fusion 360, showing some of my designs on my MacBook and exporting some CAM tests to a Mazak Variaxis and Unisign Pro 5P. The only thing he and the other managers were worried about was about the way Fusion is built around the cloud and losing important work so I told them I would bring in my Mac mini the next day, install everything from scratch and show off how easy my designs were imported and ready to work with. So the next day I brought the mini, installed Fusion 360, and TO MY ABSOLUTE HORROR the designs did not come back. The folders were still there, BUT NO DESIGNS, ALL WORK GONE, including some tests I made for work...
So obviously, the deal for using Fusion 360 and a Mac is off, and they will keep working with TopSolid, SolidWorks and CAMworks
Could someone please explain WHY this happened, making fun of me, my Mac and Fusion 360, and crushing my plans of using Fusion in a work environment???
The only positive thing here is that there were no important designs for work in Fusion yet, otherwise this would have probable cost me my new job as well... (everything is still accessible on the MacBook though)
To rule some things out:
- there was a decent (ethernet) connection available while setting everything up
- the Mac mini was left on during the rest of the day in the hope the files would come in anyway
- a few sign out's and sign in's had no effect
I included 2 screenshots, one from the Fusion running on the MacBook, the other running on the Mac mini.
Besides all this, I still love Fusion 360 and will keep using it for my hobby projects... still very sad I will never be able to use it at my job.
