Aligning longitudinal edges of two bodies

Greetings,

I'm trying to align the longitudinal edges of 2 adjacent bodies, every way I tried so far (Weld Vertices, Merge edge) deforms bothe bodies. the end goal is to perform a bridge transition between the two, I'm attaching a screen capture of the current state of the bodies with a white circle around the mismatch I'm trying to fix.

Regards,

Hani

Hi @haniysf,

Have you tried to use the Move command?

Ben.

Hi Beyondforce,

I tried it but, as I said it deforms the bodies. once I move either the edge or the vertice the edge starts bend inwards. I was hoping that there may be a way to achieve this without the side effects.

May I ask, why is it important to align the edges? When I get out of the Form environment, the surfaces are just fine.

You are correct, it does look good out of form editing, but I want to perform a bridge between the middle part and the nose to transition from the side bulges of the middle part to the rounded profile of the nose. I plan to do this by deleting the group of faces and edges of the middle part that adjacent to the nose part and bridge between them. the bridge works, but because of the misalignment of the edges I end up with a shape that is far from being a smooth transition.

Have you tried to do it in the Patch environment and use the Loft tool?

If you don't mind, if it doesn't work, please make a screencast. I want to see what you are doing!

It didn't work, the middle part's is not selectable alone, when clicking it also selects the horizontal line attached to it, I'm attaching a screenshot showing the part that I deleted in preparation of the bridge.  btw the bridge that i want to perform in on the bottom part only as the top is fine as you have already noticed.

I know a thing or two about airplanes (I'm a pilot), and I can't seem to understand why you have created the fuselage stomach they you did!
If I were you, would have created each part seperetly (don't forget R.U.L.E #1).

Smiley Happy Ok, I see your point, this is actually a concept that I'm patenting (at least on the way to that). it is about a dual skin aircraft which directs the engine intake from the nose and other parts around the fuselage to eliminate drag forces if you are interested in the details I can share with you the international patent application number.

It sounds very interesting! Controlling drag can be very tricky. Airplane design it's always a question of compromises.
I would start with the basic design and then add the changes later. Build the fuselage in layers, this way it will be much easier to make changes to some parts without affecting everything.
Make sure that everything (canvases & bodies) are symmetric following the X,Y coordinates. Right now, when I click Front view on the 3D cube, the nose of the plane is off to the right! 😉

Thank you for your advice, your notes well taken, I'm attaching a screenshot of the result of the bridge that shows the deformation I'm talking about.
