Hi Fusion 360 Community,

I am an advanced user.  However, I have something that I am stuck. This project that I am working on is going to be a scaled model (not mass-produced), mainly with resin printing.

I tried many tutorials, etc... Still no joy.

Essentially, it is an air inlet on an airplane (SIAT 223 Flamingo) cowling.  It is somewhat a slot shaped horizontal cut with curved walls. Since the cowling is curved in both ways, split body with extruded slot does not work.  The horizontal cut needs to flow and blend with the rest of the cowling

I made the cowling with t-splines.  I tried sculpting it, nope... It ruins the flow.  I tried loft, sweep... nope...

Please see attached...

Any idea, anyone?

Can you File>Export your *.f3d file to your local drive and then Attach it here to a Reply?

Please include your Sculpt, Loft, Sweep attempts so that I can get an understanding of your thinking (even though these attempts did not meet your true Design Intent).

Thank you for the quick reply.

Here is the file you have requested.  Can't wait to see what you can do with it.

Best,

Can you Attach examples of these attempts?

Thank you very much for the quick reply, guys.

CADWhisperer: Please see attached images.  There are many more, but these are the latest attempts so far.  Red lines are lofts.  Blue lines are sweep.  One problem in the last image: I am not able to apply any kind of surface here.  It comes a long way, but still not there where I want it to be.

Peter: Thank you very much for the video.  It was very informative and nice to watch.  I tried sculpting it directly in t-Splines environment, but I ended up something waaay weirder.  I liked your approach and will play with that a bit.  I am a big Blender fan, also.  But, I challenged myself to do it in F360 and make it printable without fiddling with poly>slicer issues.  Besides, I enjoy these kinds of challenges.  It teaches me a lot.

There is a point where you need to decide whether Fusion 360 is the right tool or not. In this case, if I would model this with polygons, I would use Blender.

Awesome! Thank you, Peter.  You helped a lot!

I worked on it in F360.  I think I had a decent detail that I can live with.

Eventually, I will draw it in Blender to create visualization (more exercise opportunity).
