Hi @Anonymous

You need to provide a lot more information before we can talk about the options available to you.

  • What result are you trying to get from the simulation?
  • What regions of the model are critical? What regions are unimportant?
  • What are the known loads?
  • What are the known restrictions (constraints)?

For example, gear teeth are rather standard and have specifications that govern their design. Unless you are doing some type of research that focuses on gear teeth design, you usually will not be too interested in the stress results of the teeth from a simulation. In other words, the size of the teeth can be determined from a hand calculation based on standards.

For example, the interaction and motion of the rack and pinion can be analyzed using two separate models. Do one simulation of the rack with the load applied to the tooth. Do another simulation of the pinion/wheel with the load applied to the tooth.
