3d print dialog - what's the value?

Hey guys,

I'm trying to figure out why I should use the 3d print dialog.

If I use the 3d print dialog, it dumps the STL into Meshmixer, which then dumps it into MakerBot software for slicing.

If I use STL export, it dumps it into MakerBot software for slicing.

It seems like STL export is more efficient and has less data transfer between programs.

Am I missing something? Can I slice right from Meshmixer?

Would be super sweet to orient and slice from Fusion. The closer you guys can get to a "Print" dialog the better... how many CAD programs have a "3d print" dialog that just... prints? 🙂

Played around with it a little, 3d print dialog lets you go right to MakerBot software which is pretty slick... 🙂

Would be cool to punch in allowances or corrections... for example, this 3d printer always does ID/OD on the XY plane 0.50mm under/over and it would be neat if Fusion could do corrections before going to slicer... some slicing software doesn't have a lot of control over this stuff. 🙂

Hi Luke,

WIth regards to your comment on allowances/corrections, are you referring to corrections made on the model to account for shrinkages on a printed part?

Thanks,

Gautham

Shrinkages or just poor machine setup.

With my home printer I am able to tune it, but with the one at school I am not, so I have to get creative with offset faces to get things to print true to size! 🙂
