Find features using API

Hi all,

I am trying to create a function to find and remove features (mainly chamfer, fillet, hole) of a model. The model is imported from external CAD applications, therefore no information about features or design history/timeline is available.

The current problem is with the features-finding-stage: I tried to use the native 'Find Features' command but the result was inaccurate.

The wrong surfaces are identified as chamfers. The relevant model is attached for reference.

Is there any alternative to recognize the features in a model?

Thank you in advance for your time/help/effort/patience!

There aren't any other alternatives that I'm aware of besides trying to write your own feature recognizer, which is a huge task.

Hi @j.han97 .

This seems to be quite difficult.

The one published on github here is quite interesting.

I haven't even figured out how to use it yet.

It may be just what you are looking for.

Hi Brian,

Thank you for your reply. It is indeed a huge task for me.

While I was looking for alternatives earlier, I actually tried the 'Remove features' function in the Simulation workspace (Simplify mode). Surprisingly, this function recognizes the chamfers correctly.

Do you have any idea on the reason behind the different behavior of these functions? (Find Features & Remove features)

Thank you.

Hi kandennti,

Thank you for your reply. The content you suggested is quite interesting and I will see if I can utilize it. I guess I will have to invest a considerable amount of time in this topic.
