Automatic labeling in Manufacturing Model Workspace

Hi all,

I'd like to socialise some thoughts with the group.

In the Manufacturing workspace I layout nested parts manually using the Arrange workflow. These are parts that are machined/routed from plywood. For the Setup the stock is the 2400x1220 sheet of plywood.

On the top surface of the stock and parts I create a sketch. This sketch has holes I drill for holding down the sheet and also dowel locating holes through the stock into the spoilboard so I can flip the sheet into the right position to machine the reverse side - plus it contains text that I engrave to label the stock sheet and the individual parts.

From time to time I have to revisit the positioning of parts, even from sheet to sheet which means I have to review the positions of the label text.

What would be ideal is for a script that operates within a boundary, projects the upper face of the parts into a sketch, finds the "centre" and creates a text object populated with the body name from the object properties. Even if it were a manual click on an object one by one.

Anyone tackled something like this before?

I've also been looking for this kind of functionality. We've got a few projects coming up that involve a couple hundred unique pieces, and it would be really nice to quickly label each of them with their part name for engraving.

Right now I'm adding all that text manually, checking the part number using the "find in browser" function. It's painfully slow going for the nearly 400 parts.
