Hello all,
I've had to import and modify a lot of .step and .iges files into Fusion in the last few days, and I've had a lot of crashes when I try to save these files.
It's been really frustrating, but I finally figured out if you turn on "Capture Design History", it will save without issues.
Just wanted to post on here in case anyone else was having a similar issue, hope I'll be helping someone.
Cheers,
Josh

there should be no difference whatsoever in save of a design (imported or otherwise) between a Direct Model and a Parametric (history) model. Can you share an example that shows this behavior? We'd like to investigate
Hello Jeff,
I've attached both an example .stp file and a link to a screencast of Fusion crashing with "Capture Design History" disabled, but staying alive with it enabled.
The .stp is just an example, but this has happened with every .stp, .step, and .iges that I have tried.

Thanks for the quick response,
Josh
I have embedded your Screencast into your forum question for better viewing.

First of all you do not have to Upload an STP file to a cloud folder before you open it. You can open STP files directly from your hard drive. Second, I replicated your method and did not see any issues or crashes. See my Screencast.

@theofficialjoshuataylor - thank you for sending in the crash reports. I know people get cynical about sending those in, but they do help, and your case is a good example. We took a look at your crashes. A question: Do you, by any chance, have the "Parametric text" addin installed on your computer? (Parametric Text ). It looks, from the call stack information, that this addin is trying to trigger a compute all when the file is saved, but is not checking to see if the document is a parametric design or not. Trying to call compute on a direct modeling design, apparently, can crash. So, first thing to try: If you have this addin, disable it, and see if that helps.

Jeff,
Everything started working great as soon as I disabled the add-in. I don't use that add-in much so I'm just going to get rid of it, and I believe my problem will be gone.
Thanks for the time you spent trying to figure out my problem.
Cheers,
Josh
