student design in tinkercad not playing nicely with fusion

Hi,

I can get the mesh in no problem.  When I go to create toolpaths, fusion takes hours to try to get toolpaths and then ends up with a blank path.

The shape has a ton of faces (it is attached) but from other folks work that does not seem it should be an issue.

Any thoughts on what the workflow should be would be appreciated.

Hi @chriscook77

The reason you can't use the "send to Fusion" option is that the basic shapes are missing in the TinkerCAD design.

I was able to activate the "send to Fusion" command but TinkerCAD is missing the basic shapes.

That being said:

Can you rebuild the model and keep the basic shapes in Tinker CAD? or

Can you request your student to grant access to the original design made from basic shapes?

Do not try to export the design again because the TinkerCAD export file format is STL and you will lose the basic shapes.

Instead of that, try to recreate the design or get access to the original one that has the basic shapes.

If you want to send from TinkerCAD to Fusion 360 you need the original basic shapesIf you want to send from TinkerCAD to Fusion 360 you need the original basic shapes

Mandatory is to create the 3D model using basic shapes onlyMandatory is to create the 3D model using basic shapes only

It looks like I can only add things made from simple shapes, which is not how the kids design atm.  They use the extrusion tool to get custom ideas.

I may have a couple kids try with just basic shapes and see what happens.

Hi @chriscook77

I have made a quick model on TinkerCAD and tried to mimic dimensions as closest. My intention is to show you that you can send it to Fusion 360 if the original design was made from basic shapes.

Here's the link to the 3D model. Please try to send it to Fusion 360 and let me know.

That works.  The model was out of scale, but that's no biggie.  I just remade the blank in TC and then made a quick car of my own and it moved to fusion in correct scale.  Cool part that I was not sure would work is the editing post moving.

Means kids can make basic shape in TC and then dabble in fusion to see how it works.

Very awesome.

Thanks again to all who chipped in.
