Sketch pattern along a path

Sketch pattern along a path

Hi,

This is a simple one, and it's kind of strange not having it since it is available in the create menu, I'm talking about the pattern along a path

It should be added to the sketch as well

Regards

Saeed

This would be so useful!  For example, I would right now like to pattern a bunch of bolt holes around the perimeter of a part, with even bolt hole spacing, but I can't do that in the sketch environment.

I need to add holes to a path that has arcs, lines and splines.  I can only do this in create.

Also it would be cool if you could add a center path. So if you have parallel lines, or Offset splines it will put the path in the center between them. Just select the two paths to keep in center of, and the program will keep the feature in the center position at any given point.

Well, you can do that by using the Symmetry constraint. Use a construction
line for your "center path", draw your other two lines, select the Symmetry
constraint, then click Line 1, Line 2, CenterPath.

I just tried that. It does not seem to work so well when you have Splines or a mixture of lines and arcs.

I'm thinking that when they add the pattern along path, they could add a check box for "center of path" and allow you to select two paths that the program will calculate center for.  Very useful when your open space between the two lines might grow or shrink or curve.

Just take the length of each path, figure the middle point of each path (or allow a control to manually select middle) and then proportionally  put the pattern in the middle between the two paths based on the number of repeats.

Look at the photo below.  Say you wanted holes in the middle of border ribbon  or along the cured trail segments. symitry.png
