Scale sketch on first Dimension

Scale sketch on first Dimension

This is an idea previously submitted: https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/fusion-360-ideastation-request-a/scale-sketch-based-on-first-placed-d....

However, I would like to reopen this, as I find this a really useful feature in Inventor and it would be good to see this transfer over to Fusion 360.

The problem is that if you freehand a sketch, with no sizes, to rough out the shape you want, then as soon as you add the first dimension it gives the sketch some sense of scale. If you have freehanded the sketch very small and then apply a sketch which is 10 times bigger, then it can deform the sketch geometry, trying to maintain its constraints etc. This means more time rearranging the sketch, before you can add any more sketch dimensions. The same problem we had in Inventor, until they added this feature.

See example below:

This is something I would definitely love. I'm used to a similar feature from solidworks. I usually hand rough out the sketch first. So when I do that in fusion, and it's way off initially, adding that first dimension can sometimes create enough havoc that my sketch becomes unusable.

Hello All,

I am happy to give an update that we have implemented this feature and should be available in the latest Fusion 360 update.

Please give it a try and let me know if there are any questions or concerns.

Thank you,

Best Regards

@rohit.bapatI must be missing something, I just updated to the latest version, the one with the new icons. I was super excited about this feature, went to test it out... behaves the same way it always has for me. Do I have to turn this one somewhere?

EDIT: Sorry! I should have looked in the settings first. It is indeed a checkbox in Design settings. Works!

I would like to report something I discovered.

When you sketch something and give the first dimension, it works just fine.

But if you then offset a curve and try to rescale your sketch by changing the first dimension, the entire sketch does not scale as one would like. The attached screenshot just shows the sketch I used to discover this (the circle's diameter is the first dimension).

Also, if you have two unlinked drawings on the same sketch, this new feature only works for the first one of them.

Hello @zalexzperez

The offset dimension is not yet supported for scaling on the first dimension. The complexity here is the sign of the dimension
