Scale dimension to size, instead of by factor

Scale dimension to size, instead of by factor

I ran into this problem, where I imported a file created in another program, and I needed to scale it to a specific dimension. For instance, the drawing was something like 2.64" tall (y-axis) and I needed it to be 4" tall. It is a complex 2d sketch, which I prefer not to recreate.

There is a scale by factor tool already, and this is currently the only option for changing the size of my sketch. I have to calculate the scale factor (4/2.64 = 1.5151) which got me to 4.001" (close enough for this drawing).

A more elgegant solution would be the option to scale the drawing right to 4" in height, and of course the width would scale proportionately. Additionally, being able to scale the width and have the height scale proportionately would also be nice.

If you are wondering, I also tried to scale this sketch by setting a dimension between the lowest Y-axis point and the highest Y-axis point, but received an error that the sketch was over-defined. If you would like to see a screenshot of the sketch in question, please refer to this thread: http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/sketching-sculpting-modeling-and/scale-to-an-exact-dimension/td-p/5562...

This was brought up in 2015. It's now 2018 and this still isn't in fusion360?

Ugh... wow, I really could have used this today. Any movement on this?

I am always amazed at how many features Autodesk puts into updates - not sure why this would be so difficult to implement.

Please implement this feature. Otherwise its a mess

This was post almost 4 years ago. how is this not a feature?

I need this too. Why should we do the calculations, most other software, even the dumbest ones, allow this. I'm using Fusion for my home 3D printing projects and I'm super happy with it but a few times I already screwed some stuff just because bad sizing in Fusion and then rescalinng in my slicer, the walls thickness changes in the slicer scale option and I'm unable to fix the body there. I really don't like using 2 separate software's just to achieve such simple thing, especially when 3D printing game models with complex structure.  For non advanced users this will be super useful upgrade!

I was just trying to figure this out today.

Is this seriously not possible in Fusion?!

My Maker space is trying to get us all to use Fusion, but missing basic things like this puts me right back to SketchUp.

I just need to import a photo with a scale on it.
adjust the scale to match actual and then I can build the model on top of that.

Just to let you know, you can import and scale an image within fusion right
now. Just do a quick search on YouTube for this functionality there are a
few videos that walk you through it.

@toddbg Scaling 2 arbitrary points on an image to a fixed dimension is a very typical opperation when modeling something to a scale from an image. And, weirdly, Fusion lets you do this: https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/fusion-360-design-validate/how-do-you-scale-inserted-images/td-p/6855...

You just can't scale sketch geometry in the same way. e.g. If I draw a 3/4/5 (mm) triangle and then way to scale that triangle up such that the perpendicular distance from one point to one side is 50mm I can't do that. (I can't add the constraint either because the drawing is then over constrained.)

I ran into this with airfoils. I have a tool that exports idealized airfoils with a fixes chord length. I can't then scale the geometry of the airfoil to match the chord at some cross section of an arbitrary wing planform shape. If you want to loft a complex wing with many different airfoils this is important. e.g.:

Scaling by size rather than by factor would be extremely useful!

GarthKYs link is dead so not sure if that would be helpful or not. I need to scale by size.

There's no need to calculate the factor, just enter 4/2.64 as the scale factor and Fusion will calculate it for you and it will not be correct, no rounding.

please tell me this has been implemented.  drawings are coming in way off scale. i know what the bolt hole spacing should be so it would be so easy to scale entire thing according to specific dimension.

I struggle to understand why this hasn't been resolved.

I found this post that help me to get the measurements close (but not exact) https://www.cadforum.cz/cadforum_en/how-to-scale-a-3d-model-to-a-given-size-in-fusion-360-tip11994

I am astounded that there is no feature to scale according to measurements. This is a basic requirement. Further I cant believe that after four years there is no Autodesk moderator on this forum and that this request has gone unnoticed or shall I say blatantly ignored.
