Replace component with another component

Replace component with another component

In large assemblies, it is common to include one or more families of interchangable parts. It is very useful to be able to switch from one of these parts with another in the same family, for design experimentation or to create a product family.

Autodesk Inventor allows a component in an assembly to be replaced by another component, which serves this purpose very well.

Fusion 360 is sorely missing this feature, only allowing a component to be replaced by a different version of the same component. This effectiovely means it is impossible to try out a design using different parts in the same part family, and makes it far more difficult to test out different design variations, or to create product variants..

I am also a solidworks user. Overall, Fusion make the job with some advantages and some disadvantages. No part replacement feature is one of the biggest disadvantage for me because I am developping 3D printed puzzles and smalls modular structures. So, to change or update one or many parts in  assemblies is a big time consumption operation.

Please, consider the  implementation of this feature  in a near future.

Keep on you good job guys!

Thanks

Frank

Would also like to be able to replace components.  It's a pretty painless operation in Creo, Inventor, and Solidworks.

As Inventor user, its anoying that this function is not implemented in fusion yet. Hope to see it very soon, because this post is already 2,5 years old and still not implemented as function.

This feature would be very useful for both exchanging fixings or replacing parts on circuit boards with more detailed parts. An essential feature.

As a former Solidworks user - this is a feature that is difficult to do without.

I need this capability to aid in importing from external CAD.  I have several top-level assemblies with shared parts, so when imported I get multiple assemblies with identical components that are in different files.  I'd like to be able to pick one as the master, and then replace other instances of the item with the master.

I could really use this feature tonight.

Please implement replace feature in large assemblies.

Thanks,

Another vote for "how is this not already a function??"

Having moved from Solidworks, I use this all the time for generating variant assemblies.

Yes - really need this feature. Replacing one size bolt/nut/washer/whatever from McMaster-Carr with another, especially if that component has been move/copied multiple times within the design is a huge pain.

Hi, is this replace part in assembly yet not available? "replace components" as in SolidWorks. Cheers

Would love this feature also.  Have not found a worthy workaround.

How long does this sit in future consideration?

Need option to replace a component with another component.  A "replace component" command should be able to swap out one component for another.  In the most basic form, it should at least be able to change a McMaster-Carr part for another... for example changing from a 1" 1/4-20 screw to a 3/4" 1/4-20 screw.

I know others have posted ideas for a "replace component" command, just wanted to put the idea back on top!  😉

I agree! The same function should allow for additional components to be added to the drawing that are not in the master design that the drawing was based. An example would a specialized fitting that we did not need to show in the design file (which the drawing was based on) but is needed in the drawing for visual clarification.

Good idea. Perhaps it would allow for reassignment of any joints on switch.

Agree with all posters, would really love to see this feature. Seems essential for workflow.

+1. I'm not a sophisticated user, and even I hit the need for this pretty quickly.

+1. Replacing a simple screw is a tideous task right now. Initial request is 3 years back, any feedback from Autodesk would certainly be nice.
