I know its been talked about for awhile, but where are we at with machine tool simulation in CAM?
In 2016 the Fusion team said likely in the next few years. I know in HSMWorks you utilize Solidworks CAD, but in Fusion we already have the capability to model or import a full machine tool, set drive joints and motion links etc. We already have our "machine tool" library. Couldn't we just make an axis through cylinder at the spindle, snap tools to that point, and simulate? We could use the "motion study" to see our limits or axis' and collision check to see if the machine tool violates model fixture or stock just as we check with our tools and holders.
Would it really be that much work to implement machine tools into our tool path simulation, or is it that Autodesk does not want to do this because then it would be competing against PowerMill's features at a much lower price? If that is the case, maybe it could be included with the "manufacturing extension" for extra money?
Would love a firm answer on what the plan is with this, or if its not coming at all. We're getting a massive 5 axis gantry mill soon and I would gladly pay more for this feature. PowerMill is overkill for the work that I'll be doing on this machine, but still would like to have some confidence I wont crash. I can't stick with Fusion on this machine without this feature.
Thanks !
