Lock or "Freeze" Features, Face, Components, and Bodies.

Lock or "Freeze" Features, Face, Components, and Bodies.

I would like the ability to "freeze" specific parts, features, or faces, of a model to prevent modification of that part, feature, or face. In my experience with history based modelers, this is not an issue. If you want to move a feature, you modify the sketch, and only that feature will change. When direct modeling its hard to keep tight dimensions if you move one face, and it causes an angle to be changed, or a hole size to changed. I would like to be able to choose and lock the features that must not change.

There is some ability to prevent bodies or components from being modified.  There is a Selectable/Unselectable toggle in the browser that prevents selection in the workspace.  This does not extend down the individual face level however.  I think there may be good reasons to "freeze" individual T-Spline vertices but we would need an interface for that too.

I've been talking to the Product team about having a "freeze" feature for a long time and I think it's very necessary. It's quite limiting/frustrating to spend a lot of time on refining a shape and then seeing it change when working on another part of the model or adding extra geometry. I've seen the "freeze" feature in Mudbox and it comes very close to what I would expect to happen in Fusion

I have often thought about this feature myself. Forum members please comment and don't forget to give a Kudo if you would like to see this in Fusion.

Locking is a useful feature in any graphical design program (i.e. in Omnigraffle I use it all the time).

Also, having design locks would make the mindset of Fusion 360 more aligned with general office programs we use (s.a. iWork, OmniGraffle etc.). I believe this is important - CAD software should not be seen as a separate island and mindset, but a variation of "normal" programs. This will ease the learning curve. Take the wizardy away from CAD.

Yes, this is important.  We are dealing with some elements that are defined for us.  Having the ability to lock some aspects of the design would make the more freeform parts of the Fusion interface much more useful.

I'm not sure if understand correct. This is a feature to "lock" some parts such that they are protected from accidental modifications.

Correct? If yes how do I use this feature?

Best, Cassian
