Dimension threaded holes in drawings

It would be nice to dimension threaded holes in drawings.

For example in a drawing of an M6 hole, there is no thread pictured in the drawing and the only way to dimension it, is to manually write "M6" in the Dimension-field.

Also it would be nice to picture modelled threaded holes in the drawing with core hole diameter and outside diameter and not with a sketched thread profile.

@whatwhatwhoa  & @Garret_H - We do realize that these are very important features, which is why they are on our roadmap, and the team is working as quickly as they can to release all of the functionality that's still needed to round out the Drawings environment. In the meantime, you *can* create hole callouts manually using the leader command and manually filling in the content.

Are there standardized symbols that we can insert? Like countersink angle,
etc.

If so, there should be a quick tutorial demonstrating this when one is
searching for hole calloute.

@whatwhatwhoa  if you double-click on a dimension, you'll open up the dimension editing dialog, where you can insert symbols from in-line in any particular dimension, the dialog looks like this:

@TimeraAutodesk thanks, as a long time user of AutoCAD I am very familiar with manually typing out hole call outs, as well as the quality control liabilities that come with that. 🙂

While I have your ear, there are a few manual workflow options that could make that much easier:

1. Copy paste functions of drawing options (having to create and edit new text instances adds time consuming steps)

2. The ability to create and enter new drawing objects, such as user created symbols (hello weld symbols?!)

Adding these basic features in would really help users such as myself limp along much better until smart systems can be added. It really feels like I am handcuffed in the drawings environment, and having to export to AutoCAD LT to add these is really, really not fun.

@Garret_H I completely understand 🙂 You'll be happy to hear that the team is currently working on a project that will allow for unconstrained sketching on sheets, and as a part of that we will be supporting copy / paste of those sketches AND text boxes. This should give some much-anticipated for functionality to the community, plus give wiggle room for workarounds for things like weld symbols to hold you over until we get a "smart" weld symbol tool built.

We are actively working on simple drawing tools, so that will give you the ability to create your own symbols soon. Hole and thread notes are still on the roadmap for us to tackle shortly after that project wraps up. Link to roadmap is HERE.

Just my two cents:

1. When there is an assembly with 20 or more types of holes involved it can get confusing to keep track of them all.  Kind of defeats the purpose of parametric information following a feature all the way through a design, does it not?
2. This thread is ~3yrs old.  I get the priorities and workload and managers directing energies to more important issues...but when can we expect to be able to have that parametric info find it's way to dimensions?

When the team is done with the current work, and they sink their teeth into that project (spring 2020) I'll have a better idea for timelines.
