Branching Timelines

Branching Timelines

It would be really useful for engineering teams to be able to create branching timelines. Let's say I have a 3D printer design which uses the same frame and Y axis motion but I have several different ideas for the X axis or carriage. I imagine that I could use a "Create Branch" function in the timeline to have multiple designs in one file. Another benefit to this would be that if I changed the frame or y axis (in this example) then both timelines would be updated. It could also be modular in the sense that you could continue to branch (to a certain extent before the file becomes too taxing) and have a lot of options to choose from in your one file.

Timelines should be (and probably already are represented internally as) an acyclic dependency graph.

That wouldn't be quite so nice in terms of viewing them on the bottom, but exposing that would give users much more control and could make the involuntary time-travel problem go away [in addition to making this sort of branching or parametrics easier]
