Now I'm not sure how many of you are familiarise with other CAD systems but the way how Activate command works in Fusion serves little purpose, what I'm suggesting here (and posted before) is to make it work similar to how other CAD systems treat editing a part in an assembly.
Examples of what I meant:
Why is it cutting the other part as well? I activated Prll8x1th-oa62 component cause I only want to an in-place edit, not having it affect other things as well
Select object to measure? Why did I activate component (Ingranaggio Z16 (4)) in the first place? And good luck editing that unless you turn off lots of stuffs, sure you can isolate but this component is connected to other parts which is information I need to know when editing, now I need to be Sherlock and select relevant components to isolate.
So what are the benefits of making the activate command work similar to edit part in place of assembly like other CAD systems?
Will encourage people to work in activate component more often (sketch and construction planes will be kept in respective component)
Something similar to how people used in other CAD systems
Reduce the number of time the user has to turn on and off the selection items in the selection tool
Reduce frustration and encourages more productivity (less button clicks) especially in larger environment
Video examples (sorry can't find Inventor ones that's short enough and not boring)
Notice how when he edit the part it looks awefully similar to Fusion activate command, if you used SW or any old 3D CAD system before you'll get what I'm trying to say.
Ignoring that it's from a competitor product (shown is ST6 now is ST8, so this 3 year old product is doing impressive stuffs), there's A LOT of things going on here and showcases Direct Modelling intelligence, Center-Snap Point move tool, in-place edit, and etc.
Fusion can do some of these things but nowhere as efficient or elegant, though I'm not asking for Fusion to be exactly like this, what I'm asking is for more power or control out of Fusion Direct Modelling environment. Fusion Move tool isn't great and requires more clicks to get things going but at least it's something, and if you look at the video, there's many things that Fusion isn't able to do yet, and that's what I'm trying to point out.
Finally, I would like to apologize if my post sounds harsh but take note that it is out of good intention, I really want Fusion to be a really great CAD system. I've even renewed my subscription and this shows my commitment to the platform.
