Bus behaviour weird.

Hi there

I created a bus and added the specification A{1..26]. Than I tried to connect this nets with a connector. First I tried the old style EAGLE way and clicked the pin on the connector and tried to connect to the bus. What a surprise. None of the Nets is shown in a dropdown list and I get an error message that N$.. is not member of the bus. Ok that is right but why is there no net to choose from all the available nets in the bus. I think this is definitely an error.

The other way round it works. Clicking on the bus gives me the dropdown list of available nets and I can choose one and connect it.

The new behaviour does not make live easier. For sure.

regards, Harald

PS: Screencast not working on both of my machines. Send this to the forum but none of the hints worked.

Hi @HarrySatt ,

I hope you're doing well. I think you are combining two commands, the approach for busses has always been to activate the net command and then click on the bus to extract the net you want. You don't do it by clicking on a symbol pin.

What you could do by clicking on the pins was pin breakout, where you could setup a few parameters and then as you clicked on the pins it would add the nets with each click.

One thing you can try is form a group that includes one of the components and the bus, then right click on the component and you'll see an option that gives the idea of connecting the part to the bus.

Let me know if that solves it.

Sorry @jorge_garcia2

but I remember well the behavior of connections to the bus in EAGLE prior to the move to FUSION360.

If I click with the NETS command activated on a pin outside the bus and try to connect it to the bus there was a selection of the nets in the bus available in case the actual net has no dedicated name. It was possible to select one of the nets inside the bus and connect the unnamed net to this net. The net name changed from something like N$xxx to the name of the selected net.

That behavior was really a good workflow because it gave the user better freedom to work. Now it is a bit unhandy. One can work with this but it is confusing by the best. I have a unnamed net and a connection is not possible to the bus because it is not a member of the bus entity. Why not choose from the names in the bus?

I am working with EAGLE from the beginning, think Version 1.0 or so and remember the grow in functionality and therefore I am really sure that the behavior was like this. Believe me.

If I find an old installation I send you a screencast of this.

Anyway. Maybe it would be good to implement this behavior again.

Regards, Harald

Hi @jorge_garcia2

I found an old style EAGLE 9.6.2 installation with one of my colleagues. We made a screen recording for the EAGLE workflow and the different workflow in FUSION360.

I hope you can see what I mean. also in the FUSION part you can see that the routing of the net is not remembered although it shows up. You can see the mouse moving.

Hi @HarrySatt ,

I apologize, you are correct. I have actually never used it that way so thank you for teaching me something new.

@HelenChen-ElectronicsQA See the video above. It looks like we have a regression in Fusion 360, could you make a ticket for this? Thank you.

Thank you Harry again.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

Hi @HarrySatt , @jorge_garcia2 ,

Thank Harry's reporting very much and so sorry for any inconvenience.

I have logged a ticket about this and for now please start to draw net from bus and select the available net as you want instead as you have been aware of.

I will keep you be posted if there is any update about this.

Regards,

Helen
