Exporting a sub-assembly containing linked files as STEP

Hello,

I have a sub-assembly in my top level design which contains linked components.  If I try to export from the browser, I get "Local Export is not supported right now for distributed designs".  How do I export my sub-assembly when only the top level design file can be seen in the Fusion Hub?

Hey cad_munkie,

The reason you're getting this error is that the component you're trying to export has linked components within it. Right now, Fusion can't export components with linked designs. A workaround would be to right-click on each linked component and select "break link".

Hi @cad_munkie,

Unfortunately, what you've hit is a silly bug. Sorry about that.

Export of the whole document to STEP is not disallowed today. However, it looks like someone mistakenly added this restriction for the Component Export command (when in fact, they should only have restricted f3d export).

We'll try to fix this soon. In the mean time, you can work around this using the technique @jodom4 suggested. Break the link, export your component, and then undo the break link.

Thx and appreciate your participation in the forum

@ahsan.autodesk its a painful work around right now.

Is it possible to highlight multiple linked parts in the browser and then break link?  I seem to be able to only do this one at a time.

Unfortunately, Break Link only works on one Component at a time. Sorry!!

@ahsan.autodesk This export problem also exists for derived files.  If I use a derived feature in a file and then create a surface offset of the derived body and put the surface body into a component, I am unable to export the component (containing the surface body) as STEP.

Yeah, the upcoming fix will also address the Derived parts.
Thx for your patience
