Easy way to make a bent spring or cord.

Over the last few years I have seen people ask how to make a bent spring or cord so I figured I would show an easy way to do it.

Using this same technique you can get some great results.

@ All

I follow Phil model history but for some reason I am unable to select my sketch in blue as profile.  Any idea?

Much appreciate your time and help.

Move to Patch area with orange menu items, will not work with blue icons up there.

Thank you for reminding me that it's a surface and not solid model.  I keep forgetting that it's two separate thing in F360. Smiley Happy

By the way, I guess it is normal that F360 is so slow to render this surface helical sweep.

Depends on how many turns you need but yes it can be.

I have hundreds of them posted right here in the forums, you just need to do a little digging. 😉 Most of my tricks and tips deal with T-Splines and DM modeling...

I still use Fusion at the Forge for some work but due to the current focus of the development of Fusion I don't use it for my personal work anymore. One of the reasons I don't post much these days.

@melvinbrian3d

Thanks, I wish I could have finished that project in Fusion but at the time I stopped using Fusion on it, I was pushing Fusion way beyond it's limits. Fusion just can't handle large assemblies....Just to open that Train in Fusion takes almost a half hour on a very high end computer. Since I need good surfacing tools and the fact that I rarely ever work on simple models anymore it doesn't fit the bill for me.

Hello @PhilProcarioJr

How to design this spring ? It has different diameters. In middle it more than ends .spring.JPG

@sanket223.patil

That's pretty easy, step through the history on the file attached and you will see how to do it.

I didn’t open the file to examine - but image appears to be missing variable pitch.

@TheCADWhisperer

You're correct I didn't add variable pitch as he didn't ask me to explain that. If he wants me to explain that also I would be glad to, that is also pretty simple to achieve.
