Component, Move, Transform Option

When one does a Move and selects the Transform option, the Triad pops up.  How does one determine the axis on the triad?

My triad is white.  When I hover over an arrow, I do not see anything light up in the dialog box.

The triad is really a manipuator that alows to to pull the object along it's different handles. By clicking and puling on the triad handles e.g. the arrows you can move the object in the desired direction. Youll see the valueas change in the associated field in the menu window.
