Import FormIt to RVT shows polygons

We are using the FormIt Converter to convert SketchUp furniture to FormIt to Revit, and unfortunately, it displays as a giant mesh which is undesirable in both 3D views and floor plans.

When the SketchUp file is converted to FormIt it appears fine with none of the polygon lines although they are still there. Once I convert it, it looks like I imported it as a CAD file. I have used the "Mesh to Object" feature in FormIt but it does not seem to make a difference. Any suggestions? Thanks!Mesh to Object.jpgAXM to RVT.png

Hi @Anonymous,

This is a known issue, and there's no good workaround currently, unless you have an RFA version of the SketchUp chair that you can use instead.

The good news is, we're focusing on FormIt + Revit this year, both from a "bigger picture" perspective, and also addressing specific pain points in the current workflow, like this issue. I can't promise when, we expect to see this fixed in the future.

In the meantime, we apologize for the inconvenience. Stay tuned for updates in this area.

Hi, same with me importing curved mass (as my building), and then when imported to Revit, there's 3d polygons (see attached).

Any progress on developing this not to appear and divided into parts. What I expect when imported, must be only 1 element.

Hi everyone,

We released a new FormIt Add-In for Revit 2021.1 that addresses this issue. Read about it here.

Enjoy!

So, finding Formit has helped us take a few steps towards a greater image fidelity in our construction documents, simplifying our workflow, and cutting out some tedium in our process of designing in Sketchup and exporting IFC's into Revit to be traced and documented. However, one major setback, even with the new Revit 2021.1 Formit addit, while it removes undesireable facets from imported .AXM files, it fails to show the sihlouettes around curved objects, making them unreadable in "hidden line" style views... Even when overriding views inside of Revit to explicitly show silhouettes, the imported objects remain without them and essentially invisible. Can this issue be addressed? Even curved objects created directly inside of Formit have this issue...

Looking for some solutions here, we really want this to work.

Thanks!

mitchellTJA2M thanks for the comment. As you have seen, the edges of curved surfaces are not transferring well from FormIt to Revit. It looks much better if you view the geometry in Revit's Shaded or Realistic visuall styles. But, I know that is not always possible. It's an issue that we have logged and hope to tackle soon.

Hi @HeatherL011,

Thank you for the reply!

Yes, currently using Revit for anything besides tracing our design models is a time loss for us- making tools like FormIt and Sketchup a necessity for comprehensive modeling.

There are currently threads on the Revit forums highlighting the need for Revit to incorporate seamless model integrations that do not show mesh facets, which thankfully FormIt now does- a huge improvement, if y'all can get curved edges working seamlessly inside of Revit like y'all have figured out how to overcome mesh facets showing up, y'all will become a major contributor to many firms workflows in ways no other program currently is able to be.

All the best.
