Google Maps Location not Showing

I have just downloaded FormIt and I am having trouble with Google Maps Location as it is importing only as a Grey Blank surface. I have tried creating new sketches and changing some of the settings in FormIt however have had no look in solving this issue. Can anyone solve this issue for us?

Antony,

this is an issue. It appears and reappears. Try to import any dwg that works sometimes and magically appears again. Search for some threads about it.

Hi Antony,

Sorry for the inconvenience. We're aware of this problem and are working to fix it. Google Maps changed something that requires us to re-release FormIt for Windows and iOS to fix this.

We posted more info here: https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/formit-forum/no-satellite-image/m-p/8305969/highlight/true#M2787

Hi everyone,

FormIt for iPad and Windows have been updated to address the issue with Google Maps. The iOS store should update the iPad app to v16.4 automatically, and you can get FormIt for Windows v16.4 through the Autodesk Desktop App, or download it directly from our website. The current Windows app will also alert you of an available update in the UI, which will take you to our website.

We apologize for the downtime. Happy modeling!

Hi Josh. I'm having the same problem with my work windows 10 laptop. I started a file yesterday evening on my home laptop via FormIt web. I imported the location imagery which showed up fine. I save the file to my 360 drive. When I opened it this morning at work (diff computer) the location image was grey.

Hi Debbie,

Thanks for letting us know. We're not aware of any Google Maps issues in FormIt at the moment, so we'd like to look at the file if that's ok. I'll reach out privately.

After speaking with Debbie, it seems the issue she's facing could be related to firewall/internet access limitations.

Due to Google licensing restrictions, FormIt cannot save the Google Maps satellite data to the file. So every time a FormIt file is opened, FormIt must request the satellite image again from Google. If you're not connected to the internet, FormIt can't get the satellite data and the image will appear blank. Once internet connectivity has been restored, you can open the file again and the image should show up as expected.

We'll look at user experience improvements here to better indicate that a lack of internet connectivity is the reason for the satellite image not showing up.

Hi Josh,

I'm having this problem in, what I think is, the most current version of FormIt - 17.1.0

Is this a recurring issue with this version?

Thanks,

Adam

Hi Adam,

Which problem specifically are you seeing? There are a few mentioned in this thread.

As a general update to the inquiries here, we switched to Bing Maps in v17.x, which should improve the reliability of maps in FormIt. Bonus: this also allowed us to remove the limitation where exporting an image from FormIt with satellite imagery visible would obscure the imagery (that was a Google requirement).

If you're seeing a grey plane in the app instead of the imagery, you might check your internet connection: FormIt needs to load the image from the cloud each time the file is opened. Once you have an internet connection, you can open the FormIt model again and the imagery should appear as expected. We'll have a better indication in the next update when satellite imagery can't display due to no internet connection.

I just downloaded Formit for Windows and I am having trouble bringing in a bing location image. When I click on the location icon I am getting “The specified credentials are invalid…..”. I even tried entering a location and the map did not change.

We see it internally, as well, and are looking into this error.

Hi @nashengineersadministrator,

This should be fixed now. Can you retry and let us know if it's working for you?

Apologies for the downtime and any inconvenience this caused.
