Cutting component

Hi,

Is there a way to create a components / group that will cut the face it is applied to automatically? For example I am trying to create a window that will cut out the wall automatically to save time. I know this is possible in sketch up and revit.

Thanks for the request. You can't do this in FormIt, yet. We'll add your feedback to our system for a potential future implementation. 

In the meantime, you could use FormIt's Smart Selection, Array, and Extrude tools to quickly punch holes in a building shell and then edit all of the opening sizes at once. Combined with Groups, you could accomplish a similar workflow you're after: edit the window Groups and all of the holes at once. Below is a Screencast and a description:

- Use Array (AR) to array a rectangle across the facade

- Use Smart Selection to hover over one of the rectangular faces, then hit Tab to select them all

- Array the row up the entire height of the building

- Use Smart Selection to hover over one rectangle, then hit Tab to select them all

- Click to extrude all the window holes at once

- Create a window as a Group

- Array the window Group to fit into all the openings

- Edit the window size, then exit the Group

- Use Smart Selection to select all the sides and top/bottom faces of the holes to adjust them at once to match the window
