FormIt v17.0 to Revit 2018 & 2019 - Failed to convert

To FormIt Developers and others,

Could you please try bringing this axm model using the FormIt to Revit v16 converter?

Whenever I try to convert the plugin just makes Revit freeze and not responding.

Could you please optimize getting Sketchup model into Revit using FormIt?

Please report if you can successfully bring this model to Revit.

Cheers.

Hi JC,

You should read our blog post about getting SketchUp data into Revit via FormIt. In essence, some SketchUp models need cleanup before you can send them to Revit successfully. SketchUp models can be messy, and are usually not solid; FormIt and Revit both are solid modelers, and Revit conversion works best when you send solid and watertight data from FormIt. The link above will explain in detail, and it includes videos (the 2nd one in particular) that show you how to address watertight issues in FormIt, which you'll need to do before trying to send geometry like this to Revit.

FormIt has tools to show you where problem areas are. For example, in your file, this person has all sorts of non-watertight edges (seen in red) that could cause the Revit conversion to fail. I used Monotone Mode (shortcut DM) and Display Watertight Issues (shortcut DW) to get this view:

It'll take some work to clean this up - you don't want any red geometry showing up (non-watertight edges or flipped faces) before you try to convert it to Revit. If you begin modeling something new in FormIt, you'll be making solid geometry by default or can easily fix any minor issues as you go. Cleaning up bad SketchUp models like this one is possible, but will take some effort.
