Error: Unable to read the selected AXM file.

I received the above error when trying to reopen a file after Formit crashed while doing a SketchUp export.

I had file explorer open when this error popped up and Formit somehow deleted the file from my folder.

This file is virtually gone, however, I can see it in recent documents when clicking file within Formit.

When i try to open this way, i get the same error.

Any help with this is greatly appreciated as this is 8 hours of work down the drain. .

Hi @knarup1,

Sorry to hear you're running into this.

Just to clarify: You're saying the AXM file from which you were trying to export to SKP is now gone? That definitely shouldn't happen. Do you see it in the Recycle Bin? Could it possibly be anywhere else?

The "recent files list" in FormIt simply displays the application's last-known list of opened files. The list doesn't know if those files are still there or not. If you're getting this error when trying to click on one of those list items, that means the file really isn't there anymore, or has been renamed.

@josh.goldstein ,

Clarification: Yes, the AXM file is gone, FormIt saved a SKP file in the folder however, it is only 606kb and contains nothing.

When I saw the file disappear from the folder, I immediately checked the recycle bin and searched file explorer for it with no luck.

Thanks,

Not to ask an obvious question, but there's also no AutoSave file (*.axmb) from the original file in that folder?

@josh.goldstein ,

No axmb files. Autosave is enabled at every 10 minutes.

Sorry, we're quite stumped by this one. We thought maybe it was possible to force the export to SKP to overwrite the AXM file, but we aren't seeing that, plus you said the resulting SKP file was there (but smaller than expected).

The folder you were saving to doesn't have any cloud backup by chance? Or is Windows able to do a folder history recovery in that directory?
