Error: History 3 Operation Failed

Anonymous
Not applicable

I am using FormIt 360 Pro trial version for Windows.  For some reason, yesterday and today, I have received several error messages which led to the content of my models to be completed wiped.  The first error read, "Unable to create an edge with the given points."  This then led to an error: "Unable to create an edge with the given point.  History 3 Operation failed."  I then went to save my file and received an error: "Unable to save file." (both locally and to A360).  After these messages, content started vanishing from the model.

Can someone please explain to me what is going on?  And help me get my work back?

Hi,

Thanks for reporting this. If you have any version of this model previously saved, we'd like to take a look at it. I'll direct message you with details.

We may be able to figure out where things went bad in your model so we can include a fix in the next release. This is definitely abnormal behavior, and we do not want to see customers lose data. We'll do our best to help once we get a model or reproducible steps to investigate.

Also, if you can remember any specific actions that led up to the errors, those would be helpful to know too.

Hi Josh,

Thank you for your response.  I will email you a previous version of the model.

Of what I can remember, I did not do anything unusual that led up to the errors.  I was using the "push/pull" to build basic masses and then used the line tool to draw on those masses and break up the face.

Thanks for sending the file to us.

We were able to find some bad geometry and sent it back to you in a better state.

Do let us know if you see any further strange behavior. Save often, especially if you start seeing errors. We're happy to take a look at more files if you run into problems again. We're looking into possible ways to catch and fix problems like this before they cause visible problems for the customer.

One of our models is currently having this same error. Can you please elaborate on what makes "bad geometries" and how you find it so we can help troubleshoot internally. Thank you!

Hi @jwarner4,

Try installing the "Validate + Clean Model" plugin available in the Plugin Manager (the plug icon on the right side of the app):

20211020 plugin manager.png

Click on the toggle in the upper right to install:

20211020 validate clean 1.png

You'll see the plugin load:

20211020 validate clean 2.png

It's probably worth saving a copy of the model for this.

Try the Validate step, and see if the plugin reports any errors in the model. If it does, try running Clean, and see if that improves things.

If this doesn't work, we may need to take a look at the model.
