Hello!

In your taskbar, there's a gear symbol that represents your setting. Here you can change your units between imperial and metric as you wish - I've attached a screenshot showing this as well.

Good luck!

sadly you can't work in Millimeters, If you choose to work in Metric you are only able to work in Meters or Centimeters. Hopefully Autodesk will change this in the nere future, it is so annoying.

Is this still an issue? Not being able to work in mm?

Thanks everyone for voicing frustration about not being able to work in millimeters as expected.  Sorry for the inconvenience here. We'll get this fixed in a future update.

Working in mm is a pretty basic need, and a definite "must". Hopefully this comes soon! My question is, how can you set the units to metric as a default, so that you don't always have to switch every time you start a file?

Hi mbeskowiney,

Thanks for the +1 on fixing mm input. We plan to address this in the next update.

Thanks also for mentioning the default unit issue. We plan to improve the consistency of this behavior next release as well. Can you share your preference for how this should be handled?

- Should FormIt default to the units used in the last file that was opened? (this happens already in FormIt for Windows with File > New, but not when the app is closed/reopened)

- If you open a file, then change the units, should FormIt default to the new units next time? (this happens already in FormIt for Windows with File > New, but not when the app is closed/reopened)

- Other nuances you feel strongly about?

Note that FormIt always respects the units setting saved in the file, so you could work around this for now by saving a blank file with the correct units set as a "template". Opening that file should remember the Units you set in the file.

Change settings globally and not for every new file made (and for every export again). I work in metric for all projects but every new file and every export is imperial.

How do we change it from Metres to cm?

Also another problem I'm having is that no matter where I press or hold my curser the actual line tool on FormIt is almost a good inch away?

Lana,

The units currently default to either meters or feet - but if you tap on the dimension box to type it in, you can enter after the dimension. As for the cursor offset on mobile, this is as-designed to accommodate the width of the finger on the screen. Focus on the red circle and rely on snapping and you should be good.  Or, invest in an Apple Pencil (for iPads that support it) Smiley Happy

Hi all,

A couple of general updates to report here, addressing some of the earlier responses in this thread:

  • Since v16.2, FormIt for Windows will open in whatever Units setting was previously set - so customers working in Metric will start in Metric as expected.
  • Also since v16.2, you can model in mm on all FormIt platforms - you'll just need to enter a number followed by "mm" in the dimension boxes. You can do this regardless of whether FormIt's Unit setting is Imperial or Metric.

@Anonymous to answer your questions specifically:

  • As Tom mentioned, you can simply enter "cm" after a numeric value in a dimension box to accomplish modeling in cm. If you're on Windows v17.0 or newer, you can simply start typing a new value when a dimension box is visible, and add cm. If you're on Web, you'll have to hit Tab or click on the dimension box, then enter the value and "cm." If you're on iOS, you'll have to tap the dimension box and enter the value.
    •  We're looking into adding the ability to set the specific units globally, so you may be able to set "cm" as your default unit in the future, eliminating the need to enter it each time.
  • Are you on FormIt for Windows, Web, or iOS? If Windows, you might be in Touch Mode, which changes the way FormIt's tools work so they're touch-friendly, but can result in unexpected behavior if you're just using a mouse (like the cursor offset you noted and others...). Check the Touch Mode button in the toolbar, and if it's highlighted, click it to turn it off. You can also use shortcut TM.

    • If this is the case, we're adding some additional feedback in the Windows app to alert you that you're in Touch Mode.
