Anyone know how to export or share materials

Hi Folks.

I'm stuck and can't seem to find where to export materials from Formit.

Basically i received a really nice formit sample file, and there's a custom material I would like to re-use in other Formit Models...

How do I transfer the materials or save it out???

Thanks,

Rick Kremer

Hi Rick,

You can simply copy and paste the geometry from one FormIt model to another - that will effectively copy the materials into the model.

If you're looking to share or export the material files themselves, we don't currently have an easy way to do this, but here are a couple of workarounds if you're interested:

Option 1: FormIt Web

- Try to isolate the parts that have materials you want, and open the AXM file in FormIt Web (http://formit360.autodesk.com/app).

- Go to the Materials panel, edit the material (hover over the thumbnail and click the palette icon)

- In the Editor, hover over the Texture thumbnail and click the same palette icon

- Click on the palette icon which should bring you to a screen that looks like this, from which you might take a screenshot of the texture for use elsewhere:

Option 2: FormIt for Windows

- We'll be releasing a new version of the Windows app later this spring, and the Materials interface got a bit of a refresh. One of the things we allow is dynamic resizing of the thumbnails in the list (not to mention, materials are no longer displayed by Group!). You can expand the thumbnails to their native resolution:

Similar to above, you could take a screenshot from here and save the PNG file separately. It works in a pinch - you can try it once we release the new version.

Hope this helps,
