Proposed terrain inside project boundary in Forma

Hello,
I would like to start by stating that I'm a Forma novice.

I'm a landscape architect who works in Civil 3D and I would like to be able to add my proposed terrain into Forma.  In Civil 3D I would simply "paste" (superimpose) my new terrain over the existing ground.

I have tried to import terrain as IFC and convert to landscape, but this seem to replace the terrain instead of adding to it. (On that topic, importing LandXML-files would be a nice addition)

Just as architects and planners would like to see how buildings impacts wind, shadow and microclimate I too would like to see the impact on these things based upon the terrain changes I suggest.

Is something like this possible, and if so - how?

Hi,

Thank you for your inquiry. When importing a terrain into Forma then the new terrain will replace the existing one. There is currently no support for superimposing an imported terrain patch onto an existing "full terrain" in Forma.

In this situation, I would suggest working with the entire terrain in Civil3D (possibly by first exporting the Forma terrain and importing that into Civil3D), and then apply your patch in Civil3D, and then export the full terrain, import it into Forma, and then continue working in Forma.

Essentially - to transfer full terrains from Civil3D over to Forma rather than just the area you are working on.  I don't know whether this is feasible and it might not be the ideal solution in terms of user friendliness, but it could be a working option. Please let us if you have input or further questions.

Thank you for the quick reply. The solution you describe is pretty much the way I would go about it - creating the before and after terrain in Civil 3D.
Hopefully there will be some work done regarding this workflow in the near future 🙂
