In the context of ISO 19650, the current method of managing permissions relies on assigning access permissions to folders that simulate states such as WIP, SHARED, PUBLISHED, and ARCHIVED. This approach results in multiple copies of the same file across different folders, leading to inefficiencies and potential confusion and errors.
A more effective solution would be to enable permission management at the individual file level, including specific versions of each file. These versions could be linked to metadata attributes that define their state—such as WIP, SHARED, PUBLISHED, or ARCHIVED. These "state attributes" could be automatically assigned through ACC Review workflows.
Implementing this functionality would significantly simplify folder structures and associated workflows, while also enhancing traceability and providing a comprehensive version history for each file.
To fully support this workflow, Desktop Connector would also need to recognize and interact with file states accordingly.
