Permanent deletion of files in Forma

Permanent deletion of files in Forma

Hello,

Introduce a feature in Autodesk Forma that allows users to permanently delete their files, after a clear confirmation step, for example through a recycle bin with a final delete option.

This enhancement would bring several key benefits:

  • Increase customer trust by giving users full control over the lifecycle of their data.
  • Remove a barrier to Cloud adoption, especially for customers concerned about governance, security and data ownership.
  • Improve storage clarity by avoiding the accumulation of obsolete or low-value files.
  • Support digital sustainability goals by reducing unnecessary data retention in the Cloud.
  • Align Forma with market expectations, where permanent data deletion is often considered a standard capability.

This feature could become a strong argument to reassure customers who are hesitant to adopt Forma and, more broadly, Autodesk Cloud solutions.

J'approuve totalement cette demande. Nous n'adopterons pas la solution Forma sans l'ajout de cette fonctionnalité indispensable.

Cordialement,

I would argue that this would need to be a flexible feature which can be enabled / disabled for projects dependent on forma use case. This cannot be classed as a core function.

If using as a project CDE: Following the ISO:19650 process, all information before uploading to a project CDE needs to be reviewed and approved. It can be argued that files have been vetted to reside in forma if following the correct process.

This feature would need to be controlled and simply cannot be a "are you sure" prompt for a specific user with edit permissions. This would need undertaken via a workflow ie, user request for file for be permanently deleted with a comment for justification > reviewed and approval required. This is to ascertain risk especially legal claims, this feature can be misused otherwise.

Other client CDE's I have worked with user who uploaded in error has to seek permission to delete files with a clear justification.

If using forma as an internal WIP area then I can see the justification for this feature.
I would only have an admin approval to permanently delete if used as a CDE and not as author/uploader.

I agree that this should be an option but with some very strict rules around who can and cannot fully delete files. I see two clear groups that should be able to fully delete items:

  • The person who uploaded/created the file.
  • Hub Admins.

Everyone else should be a Hub Admins to set permissions for them to have or not have permission.
