Integrate Full Microsoft Office Online Experience in ACC (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Integrate Full Microsoft Office Online Experience in ACC (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Autodesk must fully integrate the latest Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) functionality into Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC) to streamline collaboration and eliminate outdated workflows.

Key Features Needed:

  1. Create New Office Files Directly in ACC
Users should be able to create Word, Excel, or PowerPoint files natively within ACC — without needing to upload or copy files through Desktop Connector or other workarounds.

  2. Native Microsoft Integration with Open Options
Just like in SharePoint, users should have the flexibility to:

  • Open in Browser (Office Online)

  • Open in Desktop App

  • Open in Protected View (if needed)

This would enable real-time editing, co-authoring, and seamless integration with Microsoft 365, massively boosting productivity and reducing file versioning issues. See picture attached.

1000% agree.  Other similar programs do.  ACC should as well.

This is currently a big blocker for us as well. We are in the middle of testing if we should migrate from a similar product that is hosted onprem. In that way it has a local software installed giving it the option to open all files natively in it's respective application/sofware from the computer. It's a hard sell to ask people to use the desktop connector to get full software functionality and then doing extra work in the web version to add metadata or update file status/attributes when all of this has been/is possible in our current platform.

From the IT perspective there are many benefits of moving to ACC/Forma, but these are mostly all negated by this missing functionality. Even the option to open a DWG files natively from the web is not an option as far as i can see. This forces people to have 2 ways of working and I don't see how this is a step forward in terms of technology.

Any updates from Autodesk on this? @autodesk @autodesk

I agree with all of the insightful comments before me. Our firm has also ran into this roadblock. We would prefer to house all of our project delivery documents on one forma project, and have live collaboration on word/excel docs at the same level as MS Office. We noticed that @mentions does not seem to work yet and would like to see development in this area for the sake of wider adoption with project managers and executives.

I am interested in knowing whether this feature gets implemented. As flagged by some other users, the added advantage of opening directly in a desktop application (like Word) is non-negotiable for some in my company.

@jonminick

Could Autodesk share whether there has finally been a decision or any progress on this topic?

We are currently evaluating our future document collaboration strategy and need a direction soon. Without visibility into Autodesk’s plans, we may be forced to introduce additional third-party solutions to cover this gap.

Any roadmap update would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
