Auto Calculate Unit Quantities in Change Management

Auto Calculate Unit Quantities in Change Management

In the PCO tab of the change management module, if the user hard types a dollar amount into the estimated column of the grid for a cost item that has a unit cost, the default is to add the line as 1 unit at a unit rate of the hard typed value. The ideal function would be for the units to auto calculate backwards from the hard typed value and the unit cost of that cost item from the budget module. Example below.

Parameters:

Project manager's rate is $100/hr per the budget module.

Current function:

  1. $10,000 typed into estimated column field for a project manager cost item.
  2. Flyout window shows 1hr at a rate of $10,000/hr for a total of $10,000

Ideal function:

  1. $10,000 typed into estimated column field for a project manager cost item.
  2. Flyout window shows 100hrs at a rate of $100/hr for a total of $10,000 (the unite rate was pulled from that specific cost item in the budget module).
    • Would be good to be able to still override the Quantity, rate, and total fields in the flyout window in case a different rate needed to be added. ex: 80hrs at $125/hr for $10,000.

The current function can remain as is for lump sum and similar functioning units.

Will look at as part of an initiative to store agreed Daywork/Billable Rates for use in Change Orders

@ian_turner i also realized that this is an issue when doing a budget transfer on the budget tab between a LS code and a units code (hours in my case). Also if you are transferring money away from a code with units/hours to a LS then the budget transfer will add one hour to the hours code rather than deducting (and deducting a calculated amount at that).

Also wanted to check in to see when this change may be implemented. Thanks!

@sean_penkethmanCGAFU

I tried to reproduce from your text and I'm not understanding the issue in your last comment.

For the original request it was because we weren't using budget rate in the CO/Cost Item

However i tested in the budget, both directions hrs to ls and reverse

In both cases it respected the $50 unit cost to calculate the qty of 20 hrs when moving $1,000 so it appears to be doing what you are asking for in the cost item by using the budget rate??

Can you please clarify your last comment with an example/screenshot i can use to reproduce the issue?

Hi @ian_turner, thank you for taking the time to look into this. I thought it was a larger issue but it turns out that the user had not plugged in unit rates for the affected lines.

Hi @sean_penkethmanCGAFU

Ok thanks, so to clarify your request is only relative to the original post and you'd like the same function we have in the budget where we do utilise the unit cost, but make it available in change orders too?

Thanks

@ian_turner that is correct. Thank you!
