Need to improve the workflow for placing Assets on Sheets. It would be powerful to do an OCR search for text or tags on equipment, fixtures, machines, then place Assets automatically that reflect the tag in the naming convention. Similar to OCR search in Takeoff, but creating Assets.
I completely agree if it worked like the tool in Takeoff that would be Awesome. I was just thinking about posting this as a suggestion. Glad I came across this post. This could save a ton of time for 2D Assets placement and perhaps increase my company's usage of Assets on projects we don't model.
Wholeheartedly agree with this suggestion! We use assets within our 3d models reasonably often but would love to have them tie back to one line drawings as it's easier to track progress in a system. Currently the labor required to tie assets to 2d drawings is kinda insane. I presume it would be useful for folks working w/piping or HVAC as well to tie their model back to P&IDs etc. Or even to shop drawings produced for field use that are being viewed in Forma. Far easier to track items by sheet than it is to hunt for them in a 20,000+ element 3d model on an ipad!!!!
We also need to know the length of markups. If the sheet is calibrated we should be able to sketch an Asset of a length of Pipe/Duct/Conduit etc., and know that it was 26' long. We use Assets for tracking Installation, if we could capture the amount/quantity (lineal feet) that provides the necessary data for Productivity Tracking.
