Adding a Contact to Multiple Companies

Adding a Contact to Multiple Companies

I see that this request was previously raised in 2016 and again in 2018, so I’m bringing it forward once more in 2026. It would be extremely beneficial to have the ability to add the same contact to multiple companies.

We frequently work with organizations that operate under multiple divisions or company names, but they have a single contact who manages all communication with our company. Currently, there doesn’t appear to be a practical workaround that allows us to issue documents to that same individual across multiple companies.

Adding this capability would greatly improve efficiency and accuracy in our communications. Please strongly consider implementing this feature, it would make a significant difference for teams like ours who manage multiple vendor relationships across related entities.

Thank you for taking this into consideration.

Hmm, difficult one. I can imagine this that if Autodesk allowed this, could maybe backfire.
Have you tried using Roles to achieve the cross-organisational grouping? Roles are very adjustable

There is the efficiency matter, clearly here you are looking for quicker more efficient ways to setup your project.

There is also the liability matter. It can be chaotic in construction adjudication.

Say an example: If "John Berry" is linked to both companies A (designer) & B (fire specialist), and John appproves a design change that later leads to failure or fire, which company's Professional Indemnity PI Insurance is liable to pay?

I sense there is probably more nuance to your request, and clearly I dont know the detail of your case.
Consider 2 alternatives that you would be able to do today, without needing to wait for a roadmap of updates.
1. If the user is representing 2 or more organisations, that strongly suggests the user has an email per organisation. Consider logging user on the system separate for each of their emails.
2. Roles can also be a big help here. Since you are able to generate as many Roles as you'd like, and you'd be able to assign a Role to any users you'd like, you can design a shortcut to your workflows in this matter.

PS your last message was cutoff short, can only read part of it. feel free to repost the end of your thought

I do not know how to respond on this platform haha. I was just asking what you can see back firing by adding the same person to multiple companies, we can't see why this would be an issue. I reached out to our AD representatives asking if they could see issues with adding the same email to multiple companies and they noted they do not see if being an issue. Currently we are moving the contact around to their other companies so we can issue PO's. VERY time consuming and not fun. These are trades that we issue PO/Contracts to, they are not designing the building no one will be held liable should something go wrong.

1. We can't ask our trades to create new email addresses to accommodate us and our software.

2. Not sure what your point 2 is referencing, I will chat with other champions here at work to see if they understand.

Thanks for the replies 🙂
